John is a tireless and creative advocate committed to finding the shortest way possible to obtaining relief for his clients. Having once worked for a large national firm, he is proud of the results Deary Ray now obtains competing against firms like these.

John is a trial lawyer who helps clients facing business, malpractice, and government disputes.  He represents plaintiffs and defendants.  He handles everything from original complaints to appeals before the highest state and federal courts in the country.

John’s core practice focuses on financial injuries.  These injuries usually arise in the context of professional relationships that have soured.  Accountants, financial advisors, brokers, banks, lawyers, or professional trustees are often the named defendants in John’s cases.

Sometimes the plaintiffs in John’s cases allege class-wide injuries, and John therefore also has class action experience.

The defendants in John’s cases are also often insured.  The scope of insurance coverage available to contribute to a defense, judgment, or settlement is thus another issue that John has litigated.

In addition to his core practice, John maintains an interest in bankruptcy, consumer, trademark, copyright, privacy, securities, employment, and constitutional law.

The guiding principle of John’s practice is persistence.  Cases are often won or lost at the margins.  The party that asks one more question, finds one more case, or chases one more lost cause is often the party who wins.

John lives in the Washington, D.C. area.  He has three children, two cats, and one dog.  In his spare time, he loves studying history, and tries to get to the museums in D.C. as often as he can.  He also volunteers his time on refugee issues.

John began his practice at Jones Day in 2008. In 2011, he transitioned to the Office of the Attorney General for the State of Texas. Prior to law school, John worked as the Chief Financial Officer of the catalog company Wisteria. He joined Deary Ray in 2013.
